Day 37 - 6th June 2013 (TREC 1000 - Rhino Darting)

A brief overview of a days' rhino darting.... Why are rhino darted? The chip in their horn, used as a tracking device, only lasts approximately 4 years, and so must be replaced. Plus, advancements in technology now see these horns being artificially poisoned via an injection into the horn, thereby deterring poachers. Costs are typically circa R20,000 to R25,000 (about €2,200), but it has proven effective thus far and so is worth it.
